The Otoe-Missouria Tribe

Arlen Lightfoot, Candidate for 3rd Member

Greetings, Otoe-Missouria Relatives,

My name is Arlen W. Lightfoot and with a humble heart, I again announce my candidacy for Third Member of our Otoe-Missouria Tribal Council. It will be my goal to be a part of a team that are trying to achieve great things for our people. I have a lot of ideas and goals for advancing our tribe in this the 21st Century, but I am only one person who can do nothing without a good team and teamwork.

My parent were Arthur and Cecelia Hoogradora Lightfoot, my grandparents were Thomas and Martha Washburn Lightfoot and George and Eva Green Hoogradora. My earliest teachings from my parents were about God through the Methodist Church and Native American Church. I prefer the Native American Church where I am an active member.

My first experience in education began at Red Rock Public Schools but I graduated at Perry High School, in Perry, Oklahoma. After graduation I enlisted in the United State Navy where I served my country for four years and received an Honorable Discharge. Returning home I attended Northern Oklahoma College receiving an Associate Degree of Applied Sciences, majoring in Drafting and Design, I also attended Oklahoma State University. Southwestern Oklahoma State University, Black Hills State University and Gateway Community College. I wanted to learn all I could and took every opportunity to learn new skills.

I have a good work ethic due to my service in the Navy and also my work experiences. Most of my career was with the Indian Health Service, first in Rapid City, South Dakota for 16 years at the Indian Hospital and then in Phoenix, Arizona the next 8 years at the Indian Hospital there. Returning home to Oklahoma I worked at the Veterans Hospital in Muskogee, Oklahoma. I started in Emergency Management, worked at the Water Plant and for the past few years have been a transporter for the Health Services Program.

As member of the Native American Church I am the Chaplin for our local chapter and I am the Priest for our State Chapter. I am also an active member of our local Veterans Organization and I am included as a member as a member of the Red Rock Creek Gourd Clan. I enjoy participating in all of these organizations and I’m ready and willing to assist whenever called upon.

It is with great hope and expectation that I look forward to this election. I hope to be a voice for and representative of all members of our Tribe to listen and assist in every possible way. I want to be a team member working with the whole council to continue to make our Tribe a leader in economic development, providing excellent services to all members and to continue to achieve the goals that insure the security of our people. My main focus will be for our children and our elders, these are the ones who always need our attention.

I appreciate your attention and will look forward to your consideration and vote for Third Member our Otoe-Missouria Tribal Council. God bless you and all of your families.

Sincerely,

Arlen Lightfoot
