Social Services and the Indian Child Welfare Program

SOCIAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT 

The Social Services Department of the Otoe-Missouria Tribe is designed to provide services that protect and nurture Native children and elders, and to support Native families by building on their strengths while addressing their unique needs. 

There is a wide variety of services available:

  • General Assistance
  • Child Protection
  • LIHEAP
  • Promoting Safe and Stable Families Project
  • Car Seat project
  • Family Violence Prevention and Services

INDIAN CHILD WELFARE PROGRAM

The Indian Child Welfare (ICW) Program was developed to ensure compliance of the Indian Child Welfare Act of 1978. Our goal is “To prevent the breakup of Indian Families and to ensure that the permanent removal of Indian children from the custody of his or her Indian parent or custodian shall be a last resort while promoting safety, security and stability of Otoe-Missourian families.”
