The mission of the Otoe-Missouria Tribal Health Services Department is to promote positive and culturally sensitive behavioral health and substance abuse services including efforts aimed at primary prevention of psychosocial disorders as well as provide counseling services for individuals, families, groups, community meetings, and intervention services, including assessments.
FACTS ABOUT YOUTH AND DRUGS:
- The median age at which children begin drinking is 12 (NIDA, 2002).
- Young people who begin drinking before age 15 are four times more likely to develop alcohol dependence than those who begin drinking at age 21. (CADACA, 1996) & (NIAAA, 2002)
- 40% of teens admit to using marijuana one or more times, 8% tried marijuana before the age of 13. (CDC 2011)
- Over 3 million U.S. teens abuse prescription drugs. 70% of them admit to getting them from family or friends. (SAMHSA 2007)
