General Assistance payments are intended to meet the cost of unmet basic needs as defined by the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) standards. This program is available to Native Americans of all tribes. Applicants must be enrolled members of a federally recognized tribe and reside in the Otoe-Missouria Tribe’s service area as defined by the BIA. General Assistance is based on income and is temporary. It is not intended to be a permanent means of support. Individuals who apply will be referred to other resources and must apply for services from agencies such as the Department of Human Services (DHS), Social Security (disability), Vocational Rehabilitation, and Oklahoma Employment Security Commission (unemployment), etc. Applicants will be required to work with a caseworker to establish a Self-Sufficiency Plan which will assist the client in becoming self-reliant. The application process may take up to 45 days to complete.
