The Otoe-Missouria Tribe

The Otoe-Missouria WIC Program promotes breastfeeding to all women when they apply for WIC. Mothers that plan to breastfeed are given a manual breastfeeding pump after delivery. Mothers who are returning back to work or school are given an electric breast pump. Before the electric breast pump is given, the Breastfeeding Coordinator will determine if it is legitimate for one to be given. These pumps are for individual use so they are not to be returned back to the program.

All Pregnant women will receive a Prenatal Bag that contains the following:

  • Congratulations letter
  • The Baby with Love and The Comfortable Latch DVD
  • Just for Dad Brochure
  • Breastfeeding, Keeping It Simple Book
  • Breastfeeding Tip Cards
  • Burp Cloth

The materials in the bag are hoped to encourage all mothers-to-be to breastfeed.

The Breastfeeding Program that we have is on call 24-hours a day. If you need help while at the hospital or need help at home we are here to help. Breastfeeding is the best thing that a mother can provide for her baby. Colostrum is the most important thing that baby needs right after delivery. Colostrum is the first immunization your baby can have if you breastfeed.

Exclusively Breastfeeding Mother and Infants receive the best Food Packages available that the WIC Program has to offer.
