OTOE-MISSOURIA TRIBE TO HOLD GENERAL COUNCIL MEETING NOVEMBER 4

Red Rock, Okla.—In accordance with the Otoe-Missouria Constitution, a General Council Annual Meeting is scheduled for Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 10 a.m. in the Cultural Building, Red Rock, OK.

 

The General Council consists of all enrolled Otoe-Missouria tribal members 18 years of age or older who are present at the Annual Meeting.

 

Minors and those that are not enrolled in the Otoe-Missouria Tribe are not allowed in the General Council Meeting.

 

Tribal members are asked to please bring a form of identification and check-in at the west entrance of the Cultural Building. Check-in begins at 9 a.m. Once checked-in, tribal members are asked not to leave the Cultural Building.

 

According to the Otoe-Missouria Constitution, one hundred qualified voters must be present to constitute a quorum in order to conduct business at any annual meeting of the General Council. No enactment of the General Council shall have any validity in the absence of a quorum at the time it is voted upon.

 

The powers of the General Council are set forth in the Otoe-Missouria Constitution as follows:

a)    General Council. The following powers are to be exercised in meetings of the General Council:

 1. enact an ordinance dealing with land acquisition and management for implementation by the Tribal Council.

 2. make decisions regarding changes in the tribal burial program.

 3. adopt or reject initiative proposals in accordance with Section 1 of Article X.

 4. adopt or reject referendum proposals in accordance with Section 2 of Article X. 

In addition, one position for the Otoe-Missouria Election Board will be voted upon at the General Council Meeting. The one position is secretary.

According to the Otoe-Missouria Election Board Ordinances, to be eligible to serve on the Otoe-Missouria Election Board must meet the following qualifications:

1)      must be enrolled in the Otoe-Missouria Tribe

2)      must be at least twenty-five (25) years of age

3)      must be duly registered to vote

4)      must not have been convicted of a felony by a court of competent jurisdiction, and

5)      must not be a candidate for, or be on the Tribal Council
